Dr. Tschernokoshewa is the Head of the Department of Empirical Cultural Studies and Anthropology at the Sorbian Institut, Bautzen, Germany.
Born in Sofia, Bulgaria, she studied cultural studies and aesthetics in Berlin and received her Doctorate from Humboldt University Berlin and post doctorate degree from Sofia. She is a visiting professor of cultural studies and policy at the Universities of Bristol, Basel, Tübingen, Bremen, Berlin, Sofia etc. Her main research interests are cultural diversity, minorities, transculturality, gender and comparative studies on Eastern Europe-Western Europe. She has conducted comparative studies on minorities and migration and in 2005 completed the study "Diversity, Otherness and Hybridity in the Media". Dr. Tschernokoshewa is an active member of the Commission of Experts Gender Studies, Sachsen and is a board member of the European Association of Cultural Researchers (ECURES). Dr. Tschernokoshewa is a member of the scientific committee for the SIEF Congress "Transcending ´Europe.´: Liberating the Ethnology", to take place in Derry, June 2008. She is the editor of the book series "Hybride Welten" [Hybrid Worlds], Waxmann Verlag with themed issues on: Searching Hybrid Stories. Theories - Empirical Studies - Practice (2005); Diversity as Routine. The Accommodation of Difference in Education, the Media and Politics (2001).
